Well, here it is, the final countdown to when I give up my chair at the sports desk and move on to a new job. It's been a nice two-and-a-half years at The Springfield Sun. I've met a lot of great, interesting people and you all welcomed me with open arms and made me feel right at home - I thank each and every one of you for your hospitality.
I am mostly sad because I will miss hanging out with the athletes that I have covered for the past few years. I just want them all to know that, although I am no longer covering WC sports, I'm still a fan and I will definitely catch some games from time to time.
On my regular news beats of Washington County Fiscal Court and Springfield City Council, I've become acquainted with everybody on the local political scene. I would like to take this time to thank everybody involved with city and county government for their patience as I dug into some issues and tried to inform our readers of what was going on.
I would like to thank Washington County as a whole for making me feel welcomed in the community, whether I was writing a feature story on someone or covering a parade or festival, it was my pleasure to share such wonderful stories with our readers.
While one door closes, another one opens, and I would like to thank everyone at St. Catharine College, especially president William Huston and executive vice president Roger Marcum, for greeting me with such enthusiasm and kindness. In my role as director of communications, I will be covering events on campus that are not sports related. My "cohort on campus," Tom Bystrek, will be covering Patriot sports as he takes over full-time as Sports Information Director and assistant athletic director. I'm very excited about the opportunity before me, and I'm looking forward to a new chapter in my life.
I'll still be around, maybe just not as often as you're used to seeing me. But know in my heart that, although I am working somewhere else now, I am and will continue to be a proud resident of Washington County.
Nov. 24 was my final day at The Sun. I know a lot of you have grown used to reading my articles and seeing my pictures week after week. Thanks to everyone who has told me they enjoyed my work and will miss it each week. Your kind words mean so much to me, you have no idea. Sometimes when I would be down, I would get a note, card or e-mail from someone saying they enjoyed this article or that picture. That always gave me an extra boost to get through the day. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
This really isn't how I planned things to go, but you have to go with God's plan, and when the opportunity presents itself, you have to grab it. True, I didn't get the position on the first try, but there's a reason for everything and maybe God wanted me to wait a few extra months. Whatever his reason may be, I am about to set out on a new path. It might be a little scary at first, but I trust God to lead me where he wants me to go.
I truly appreciate everything you have done for me. Take care and may God bless you all.
