Students from St. Catharine College were in the holiday spirit this past weekend. For the third year, Dr. Dave Donathan’s Senior Seminar class partnered with Springfield Main Street Renaissance to help with the Heart of Kentucky Holiday Festival, a joint seasonal celebration between Springfield and Lebanon.

“The students were tasked with real world, real time committee and individual assignments which enabled an interdisciplinary class of students majoring in fields such as management, criminal justice, marketing and health sciences to synthesize and apply their theoretical classroom learning with the harsh truths of reality,” said Donathan, Professor of Management at SCC. “They gained valuable experience in working with local community and business entities, developing self-managed teams which required polishing their planning and communications skills, and how much hard work it takes to be successful outside the classroom.”
St. Catharine’s presence in the community could not be missed as students helped with Santa’s arrival by helicopter at the Springfield-Lebanon Airport, organized parade participants at Washington County Industries, Covington Avenue and the Washington County Board of Education, and welcomed area shoppers at the Christmas Bazaar held in the old Louisville Store on Main Street.
Donathan added, “This partnership has been very successful in bringing together the college and the community in a celebration which was ranked as one of Kentucky’s best festivals. This year, the ‘Heart of Kentucky Festival’ was ranked a Top 20 event by the Southeastern Tourism Association.”
