SCC bowling competes in first tourney

St. Catharine College sent its bowling teams into action for the first time in school history on Sunday, Sept. 27 in the Kentucky Collegiate Team Classic at Eastland Lanes in Lexington. The men took two teams to the tournament while there was one SCC women’s team in competition.

In the 16-team men’s field, the SCC purple team finished eighth while the gold team finished 14th. The women finished sixth out of eight teams.

“There were some very good teams there,” said SCC coach Jim Mohr. “We really didn’t bowl badly. It was just tough competition.”

Rodney Russman led the purple team with an average of 177.8 in five games bowled. Jimmy Carroll rolled a 174.8 average followed by Justin Witt (171.4), Corey Elliott (169.2) and Brett Salsman (168).

The gold team was led by Patrick Hagan with a 165.6 average. He was followed by Jon Tucker (160.8), Corey Cochran (156), Kevin Riley (152) and Kanani Swain (129.2).

Breonna Thompson led the SCC women with a 167.6 average. Stephanie Wilcheck had a 152.2, Cassie Schmidt a 144, Kendra Garris a 141.8 and Chelsea Roby a 131.
