After a summer-long drought, it appeared that Mother Nature would bring some rain – but unfortunately those showers would fall on the St. Catharine College Celebrity Golf Classic contested at Lincoln Homestead State Park on Aug. 4.
But as quickly as the rain and thunder descended it disappeared, much like it had over the last few months. And the clearing weather led to perfect conditions for what is labeled as the most successful tournament in the 22-year history of the event.
“The rain slowed us down for about 30 minutes but actually everyone found it quite refreshing,” said Angela Hoffman, who heads the tournament as Director of Alumni and Events at St. Catharine.
Hoffman added, “The reception on Friday night was well attended and the celebrity auction really raised the bar. It was a fun night and everyone enjoyed the camaraderie Friday and on the course Saturday.”
On the course it was RAME Construction, who enjoyed a second-consecutive first-place finish. Last year RAME finished as the low-net winner but this year they stepped up to win the low-gross prize with an 18-under par. The team of Scott Reinle, John Reinle, Ronnie Reinle, Jordan Reinle and Billy Reinle held on to win over the second place Joe Jones team. Farmers National Bank of Lebanon came in third.
M & J Construction won the low net this year. That team included Mark Simms, John Simms, April Emerson, Alex Simms and Joe Joe Simms. They were followed by the Nally and Hamilton team that finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive year. The team of Morel Construction, Flowers Bakery, Springfield Laundry, Jonathan Jones took third place low net. But again the real winners of the tournament are students at St. Catharine College who will benefit from the proceeds that go toward funding scholarships. And for that success, Hoffman credits a real group effort.
