The St. Catharine College men’s golf team will begin its spring schedule on Monday with a tournament hosted by the University of the Cumberlands at Crooked Creek Golf Course. The women’s team will start April 6 in a tournament at London Country Club, also hosted by Cumberlands.
The team will finish its qualifying this week to decide which five players will go to the first tournament according to coach Joan Rizer. “We played 36 holes and will take the top five scores to the tournament,” explained Rizer. “The qualifying rounds have been very competitive. Unfortunately some will be disappointed that they don’t get to go.”
There are 14 golfers on the men’s team this year and six on the women’s team. Rizer added that four women have clearly won their spots to go to the first tournament.
This spring will mark the first time the SCC golf teams have competed officially in the Mid-South Conference. While St. Catharine have often played MSC schools at different tournaments, this year the Patriots will get to compete for the conference tournament title. That tournament will be played at Nevel Meade Golf Course April 27-28.
