The St. Catharine College men’s and women’s golf teams competed last week in the Don Bishop Invitational at Campbellsville Country Club, a tournament hosted by Campbellsville University. In the event played Monday and Tuesday the Patriot men placed eighth in the 12-team field, while the women were eighth among as many teams.
Joan Rizer’s women finished with a 36-hole total of 818 (242 over par).

Kelsey Lyvers recorded the low score for the Patriots with a 198 (102-96) which put her in 36th place overall. Jessica Shelton had a 204 (103-101) followed by Jordan Graham’s  205 (108-97) and  Katy Layman’s 211 (105-106).

Cumberland University (Tenn.) won the tournament with a 625 total. The University of the Cumberlands was second at 656, followed by Lindsey Wilson College at 664.
The Patriots are back on the course Saturday when they play at Danville Country Club in a tournament hosted by Centre College.

The St. Catharine men tied for eighth place with a 36-hole total of 623 (321-302).
St. Catharine’s Ronnie Twigg, a freshman from Louisville, made the all-tournament team with a fourth-place finish. Twigg had a 142 (71-71) which was two under-par. Matt Bloom had a 155 (82-73), followed by Nick Patterson’s 160 (85-75), Michael Hardin’s 169 (83-86) and Dylan Riley’s 171 (88-83).

University of the Cumberlands, a Mid-South Conference foe, won the tournament at two-over-par (578). That was one shot better than Lindsey Wilson, another MSC member, and nine shots ahead of Cumberland University (Tenn.), who just joined the conference this year.
The Patriots mens’ next outing will be in their own tournament, which is Oct. 15-16 at Maywood Golf Course in Bardstown.
