It wasn’t hard to determine the turning point in last Tuesday’s volleyball match between Campbellsville University and St. Catharine College. With the Patriots leading 23-21 in the third set, and the sets tied 1-1, the visiting Tigers rallied to win 26-24. Campbellsville then coasted to a 25-18 win in the fourth set to win the match.
“We had a good chance to go up 24-21 in that third set and they got a shot that fell right in between two of our players and we couldn’t regain the momentum,” said Patriot coach Adam Stevenson.
The win sent the Tigers to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-South conference. The Patriots fell to 4-11 and 0-3 in the conference.
Campbellsville won the first set 25-15 and the Patriots took set two 25-23.
The Tigers took an early lead in the fourth set and never trailed.
Allie Southard led St. Catharine with 12 kills and Casey Stone had 11. Four Patriots had double figures in digs led by Randa Murphy’s 19. Chelsea Wichman had 14 while Lauren bowling and Jessica Simmons had 13 each.
The Patriots were back in action last night (Tuesday) with a Mid-South Conference match at University of the Cumberlands. They return home next Tuesday with another conference match against Cumberland University (Tenn.).
