The Washington County Commanderette golf team continues to battle through the 2009 schedule. With wins over Bardstown and Spencer County, the girls continue to build experience that will help in years to come.

“I have three girls that just started playing last year,” said Harmon. “For golf, if you start playing around sixth grade, then by the time you get to high school, you should be competitive. But I’ve got three that are working really hard. One is a fifth-grader, Emily Cox. Her sister Amanda is an eighth-grader, plus we have Emily Cecconi, a junior, and my daughter Callie is a sophomore. I’m pretty happy with the way they play.”

Callie Harmon recently qualified for the girls’ All-”A” state golf tournament to be held in Richmond in a couple weeks.

With just four girls on the current team, what Harmon would like to see is more girls interested in playing golf.

Any girls interested in playing golf for the Commanderettes may contact coach Tom Harmon by calling Washington County High School at (859) 336-5475.
