Kristen Corey, a senior at Washington County High School, had planned to join the __ other students at the class of 2013 graduation ceremony this past Friday night. Unfortunately, a car accident in Marion County on Tuesday derailed those plans.
Corey, who was not in attendance on Friday while recovering from injuries suffered in the accident, was flown to the University of Louisville hospital by Air Evac on Tuesday with undisclosed injuries.
WCHS Principal Paul Terrell hinted at the severity of Corey’s injuries at Friday night’s graduation. He announced that he visited Corey’s family on Friday, and had presented her mother with Corey’s diploma.
“The good news is she does have some feeling coming back up into her legs, so that’s a good thing,” he said.
Corey was traveling West on Danville Highway around noon, about seven miles East of Lebanon when the accident occurred. According to the police report, she approached a curve and lost control of her 2001 Buick, cutting through gravel along the side of the road, before overcorrecting and losing control of the vehicle again.
The vehicle then left the roadway, striking an embankment and overturning two times.
Corey was able to be part of the event through a live stream to UofL hospital.
