After a respectable 14-18 season last year, the 2010 Commanderette softball squad is ready to hit the diamond. Head coach Christy Baker is tuning her team up by playing a couple of scrimmages this week. As The Sun went to press, the Commanderettes were slated to scrimmage Somerset on Tuesday and John Hardin on Saturday.
“It’s hard to judge what you’re doing when you’re playing yourself,” said Baker. “These scrimmages will be a good test for us, getting everybody out and seeing what’s going on.”
The biggest change for the team this year is getting used to a different field. All Commanderette home games will be played on the 9-10-year-old Little League field located by the concession stand.
“It’s different. I mean a field is a field is a field,” Baker added. “We had some issues with the old field, and they think it will be a better fit up on the top field, so we’re going to try it and see how it goes.”
The season starts at home Monday as the Lady Cards from Taylor County visit WC at 5:30 p.m. The Commanderettes then hit to road to Burgin on Tuesday.
