Tyler Smith is a rare two sport fall athlete. He is a member of the Highlands state runner-up soccer team and a member of the cross country team. Tyler has been a varsity letterman on the Highlands cross country team for four years. He was a part of the 2006 and 2007 AA Regional 5 championship teams. He was also a part of the 2007 cross country team that placed third at the state meet. He has been a two-year varsity starter and captain on the Highlands soccer team. This year the team made it to the state tournament finals for the first time in school history.
During the run to state, Tyler was named to the 19th District and 10th Region all tournament teams. In the state championship game Tyler received the state tournament outstanding sportsmanship award. He was named the soccer team co-MVP and he received the soccer devotion award. He received KHSAA academic all state first team honors and was named to the Northern Kentucky Coaches boys all star team.
During his junior year Tyler participated in the N. Ky /Greater Cincinnati Regional Youth Leadership Program and he attended the Governor’s Scholar program on the campus of Bellarmine University. He was the Highlands nominee for the Wendy high school Heisman award. Tyler excels in the classroom as well where he has a 4.38 GPA and he is an AP scholar with honors. He is active in many other school activities including National Honor society, Spanish club, Robotics team, intramural basketball and a member of senior council. He is undecided about where he will attend college, however he plans to major in architecture or engineering.
Tyler is the grandson of Jim Smith of Springfield, and the late Jane Bradshaw and the great-grandson of Scout and Helen Smith of Springfield. He is the son of Barb and Jamie Smith (formerly of Springfield).
