After spending the last two years in Lebanon, the President’s Cup is headed back to Springfield following Lincoln Country Club’s win this past weekend. The victory secured not only bragging rights until next year’s rematch, but also put Springfield back on top of the all-time series at 8-7 in the event’s 15th year.
The Springfield side came away with a 16.5-13.5 victory, which included taking eight of the 12 available points in singles play on the second and final day of the event on Sunday.
Lebanon Country Club got off to a good start on their home turf on Saturday, taking a 4-2 lead at the end of best ball play, and holding a 6.5-5.5 advantage when day one concluded with the scramble portion of the tournament.
The competition remained tight through Sunday afternoon, when play moved to Lincoln Homestead. The teams split alternate shot play with three points each, leaving Springfield behind on the scorecard 9.5-8.5. They were able to erase the deficit with the 8-4 difference in the individual portion.
