It was a totally-dominating performance Saturday for the St. Catharine College women as they topped the visiting Mountaineers of Berea College 6-0. The victory improved Paul Patton’s team’s record to 6-3-2, while Berea fell to 3-6.
The Patriots scored three goals in each half and had many more opportunities that were turned away by some excellent play from Mountaineer goalkeeper Katie Downey, who had 13 saves. St. Catharine fired 31 shots overall and 19 on goal, while Berea had no shots for the game.
Kelsey Pendleton, Sara Herbert and Sarah Castillo scored goals in the first half. Herbert added another goal in the second half and Krista Russell had the other two goals. Herbert and Castillo had one assist each, as did Chelsey Landrum and Michelle Dunaway.
The Patriot women return to play at home today at 2 p.m. in a Mid-South Conference game against University of the Cumberlands. That is the first game of a womens’/mens’ doubleheader.
The SCC women are at Bluefield College for another Mid-South Conference game on Saturday.
