Operational hours at the St. Catharine post office will be reduced beginning on Nov. 17.
According to a report from the National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS), the post office is among one of about 5,742 in the nation that will close or reduce hours.
New hours will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. through the week and 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The post office was on a list released by the United States Postal Service (USPS) in May that cited post offices that may see shortened hours. Also on that list were Mackville and Willisburg post offices. Those locations, however, were absent from the recent NAPUS list.
The St. Catharine post office, which currently operates eight hours a day, will see hours cut in half.
An attempt to contact anyone at the St. Catharine post office on Monday afternoon was unsuccessful. Monday also served as a state and federal holiday to honor Veterans Day.
According to The Rural Blog, this is the USPS’ first phase of a plan to close or reduce operating hours at about 13,000 locations.
