The Kentucky Standard and The Springfield Sun added a new member to their teams recently with the hiring of Lizzy Haydon for the position of advertising sales consultant.
Haydon takes over one of the positions held by Shorty Lassiter who served in the role for 25 years until transitioning into semi-retirement and a part-time position later this month.
Haydon is a lifelong resident of Washington County and a graduate of Washington County High School. She attended Western Kentucky University prior to returning to Springfield, where she was most recently employed as a deputy clerk at the Washington County Judicial Center.
Haydon said it’s “good to be back” and in the swing of things in her hometown community and she’s looking forward to being a part of the Landmark family for the foreseeable future.
“I just wanted to start something new and try this out. I want to be out and about with different customers and meet new people,” Haydon said. “I want to make a career out of this and make it something that I can do for a very long time.”
Haydon also noted that she’s looking forward to the challenge of trying her hand in a new field and said she believes her lifelong Washington County ties will be a benefit to her transition.
“I think it will be good with me being from Springfield and knowing the surrounding area,” she said. “I’m an outgoing person and I have a lot of connections around here. I’ll be able to get started with a lot of familiar faces.”
The position is part time, with office hours for The Sun primarily being on Thursdays and Fridays and includes all retail advertising. Haydon said one of the most important things to remember going into her new job is to earn the trust of advertisers and local business owners. She has one foot in the door already, with her familiarity with the area.
“I’ll build trust just by being myself,” she said. “Hopefully being from Springfield helps because I know people and am already familiar with what their business does.”
