It was cold, windy and rainy Friday when the Patriots took to the Barber Soccer Field for senior day against Oakland City University. But the weather didn’t dampen the honors bestowed on the five Patriot women playing their final home game. Nor did it affect the St. Catharine offense as they felled the Mighty Oaks 3-0.
A goal by Paola Martinez, one of the five seniors, in the 12th minute was all the scoring St. Catharine would need as they dominated possession throughout the game. The assist for the first goal was by Chelsey Landrum.
Kelsey Pendleton made the score 2-0 in the 26th minute when she scored off a Martinez assist and 11 minutes into the second half Sara Herbert completed the scoring when Pendleton dealt her an assist.
The Patriots (11-5-2) fired 15 shots on goal and 23 total shots while the Mighty Oaks (4-6-4) had four shots on goal among their seven total shots.
St. Catharine goalkeepers Maggie Grieser and Lindsey Vinson each played a half for the combined shutout.
The Patriots now move on to the Mid-South Conference tournament where they will be seeded fifth. That will pit them against Georgetown College in a quarterfinal game Nov. 3 on the Tigers’ home field at 7 p.m. Georgetown claimed a 1-0 win last Wednesday over the Patriots in the final regular season conference game.
