In individual competition, WC senior Ty’Lyn Byas participated in the Class 1A 100-meter dash.

Running in the second heat, Byas was clocked at 11.75 seconds.

The time, which was nearly identical to his regional tournament performance (11.74 seconds), was good enough for fifth in his heat and 14th in his class.

The Commanders also sent their 4x200-meter relay team to compete at Class 1A state after qualifying in the Region 3 Tournament with a second-place time of 1 minute and 38.47 seconds.

Competing on the relay squad was Byas, senior Christian Ibarra, junior Johnathan Riley and freshman Matthew Burkhead.

At the state level, WC came close but ultimately was unable to replicate its performance at regionals, finishing in 1 minute and 39.65 seconds.

The time was good enough to place the Commanders at 20th in the state in their division.
