WCES students work on public speaking skills

Students at Washington County Elementary worked on their public speaking skills by participating in the 4-H Talk Meet program this month. Fourth and fifth graders spent weeks polishing their presentations that took place on April 11. The students did an outstanding job on their speeches. Their teachers, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Metcalf and the remaining fourth and fifth grade teachers prepared the students for the event. Listed below are the results of the 4-H Talk Meet. The champions and reserve champions will now advance to the county-wide competition scheduled for May 7.

Fifth grade – Mrs. Mattingly
Champion – Hailey Grace; Reserve Champion – Keith Vanover; Honorable Mentions – Kaitlyn Mudd, Jase Phillips and Mackenzie Bottoms; Lucky Blue – Jonathan Lewis; Blue – Wyatt Byrd, Isabella Downey, Justin Durling, Terrianna Hagan, Lance Herald, Derek Howard, Jessica Marcum, Christopher Mason, Cynthia Pickett, Jasmin Stacy, Dashyra Thompson, Seth Thompson and Talon Walker; Red – Miguel Alcantara, Kendall Smith and Jerry McElvain

 Don’t forget that the 4-H Youth Fair is this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the extension office. Door prizes will be at 1:30 p.m. at the end of the fair.  4-H members from several counties will be participating in the Second Poultry and Rabbit Skillathon sponsored by the 4-H Spurs and Furs club.
The 4-H Young Riders participated in the District 5 4-H Horse Camp this past weekend. Their next event will be the District 5 and 6 Horse Judging Contest on Saturday, May 4 at the Ohio County Fairgrounds.
