Recent WCHS graduate Joe Joe Simms is still making Washington County proud, even after he has received his diploma. This past Friday, Simms was one of two quarterbacks chosen to play for the West team in the Kentucky East Vs. West All-Star Football Classic in Bowling Green.
After West took an early 3-0 lead on a field goal, Joe Joe came into the game in the second quarter and led the West All-Stars down the field, setting up a 19-yard touchdown run by Yorel Shemwell with 3:25 left in the half. Not content with a 10-0 lead, Simms again drove his team down the field on another scoring drive, this time breaking into the end zone on a 1-yard run by Rolandan Finch of St. Xavier to put the West up 17-0.
East got on the board with three seconds on the clock with a field goal to make the score 17-3 West at the break.
The West All-Stars added another FG in the third to increase their lead to 20-3, and that's how it finished.
Despite not having thrown any TD passes, Simms had a good outing, completing six of 10 passes for 70 yards, his longest was a 49-yard completion to E-Town's Chris Gohman.
