High-flying wrestling action took place this past Friday as Ohio Valley Wrestling invaded Lourdes Hall at St. Catharine College.

As strange as it may seem, the event was held as a fundraiser for the SCC soccer program.

“We get 25 percent of the gate,” said SCC head soccer coach Paul Patton. “We have some guys on the soccer team that are wrestling fans and somebody mentioned that they (Ohio Valley Wrestling) do shows as benefits. So I gave them a call and asked them if they wanted to come down. It didn’t cost us anything to bring them in, we just try to get the biggest crowd we can. It’s an easy fundraiser that’s fun.”

And fun it was as the crowd got into the action during the evening. Of particular note were the reactions of the young people in the crowd, several getting close to the ring to taunt the bad guys.

The turnout was good being that this was the first event of its kind at St. Catharine.

“We got about 160 people,” added Patton. “We were shooting for 200 but with the economy and everything, plus the baseball team is on the road and I know some of those guys would have been here. It was a good start, we hope to do it again in the fall.”

From the way the crowd responded on Friday evening, it seems area wrestling fans will be ready whenever their favorite wrestling superstar returns to town.
