  • On Saturday, Feb. 25,  local schools will gather to take part in the 52nd District Governor’s Cup competition, an academic event sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition.

    Participating schools are Glasscock Elementary, North Washington Elementary, Washington County Elementary and West Marion Elementary.
    The Governor’s Cup features eight events, including the quick- recall event, which is the only one open to the public.
    Quick Recall begins around 11 a.m.

  • The following students from Washington County High School were selected as Students of the Month. Sponsored by FRYSC, teachers nominate and vote for these students.

    Senior – Emily Marie Hutchins

    Emily Marie Hutchins is the senior student recognized this week. She is the daughter of Bill and Aggie Hutchins.

    Nora and Michael McCain of Springfield announce the birth of their son on Jan. 12, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.


    Patrick Curran weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches in length.
    He was welcomed home by Claire, age 4 and Will, age 2.
    Maternal grandparents are Tim and Marie Curran of Garrett, Ky.
    Paternal grandparents are Mike and Susan McCain of Springfield.

    Ronnie and Bonnie Smith celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 12.
    The couple have three children, Darrell (Kristy) Smith, Brian (Kristy) Smith and Sheila (Scott) Smith; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

  • Clay and Ann Weslen Cheser of Elizabeth-town announce the birth of their daughter on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

    Ann Clayton Cheser weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 inches in length.
    She was welcomed home by a brother, Matt, age 5 1/2.
    Maternal grandparents are Jackie Mattingly and Lennie Mattingly of Springfield.
    Paternal grandparents are Larry and Debbie Cheser of Harrodsburg.
    Great-grandparents are Wesley and Jean Shewmaker, Mattie Mattingly, Elaine Warner and Bobby and Mary Cheser.

    Melinda Kae Redinger and Richard Joseph Elder were wed at 6:30 p.m. on October 1, 2011 at Central Baptist Church in Winchester.


  • Becky Lay and Brian Settles of Springfield announce the birth of their son on Jan. 21, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Aiden Brian Settles weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Bernie and Barbara Lay of Springfield.
    Paternal grandparents are Brenda and Chris Settles of Lebanon.
     


  • Devon and Joshua Hamilton of Vine Grove announce the birth of their daughter at 3:22 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2012 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabeth-town.

    Sadie Katherine weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20 inches in length.
    She was welcomed home by a sister, Sophia Grace, age 2.
    Maternal grandparents are Jerrold and Denise Bradley of Hillsboro, Ohio.
    Paternal grandparents are Paul and Mary Hamilton of Springfield.

  • The family of Lorraine Darland Pinkston will be hosting a reception to celebrate her 100th birthday.

    The reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at the Mercer County Senior Citizen’s Center at Anderson Dean Park on 127 North in Harrodsburg from 2-4 p.m. The family is asking everyone to send/bring a birthday card.
