  • Local family wins Outstanding Young Farm Family award


    Michael and Nora McCain of Washington County were honored as Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) 2011 “Outstanding Young Farm Family” during the organization’s 92nd annual meeting in Louisville.

    KFB annually awards this distinction to a couple under age 35 who has exhibited the strongest farm management skills, most consistent financial growth and highest level of involvement in both Farm Bureau and their community.

  • Central Kentucky Community Theatre to attend governor’s inauguration


    The Central Kentucky Community Theatre hasn’t stopped growing since it was opened by Scott and Jan Fattizzi in 2005. Now, members of the theatre have been invited to attend Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear’s inauguration ceremony on Dec. 13 in Frankfort.

    Scott Fattizzi said the invitation is likely the result of positive feedback from theatre guests reaching the governor, as well as a visit from Beshear himself.

  • Three arrested for assaulting a court witness


    All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    According to a press release, Springfield City Police arrested three suspects for assault, tampering with a witness, evading police and theft by unlawful taking on Nov. 27 at Domus Court in Springfield.
    Mitchell Hughes, 29, Myron Dawson, 29, and Anthony Thompson, 28, all of Springfield, were arrested and charged with second-degree assault, tampering with a witness, second-degree fleeing and evading police and theft by unlawful taking.

  • President pardons Marion County man


    A Marion County man has received a Presidential pardon.

    Lesley Claywood Berry Jr. of Loretto was one of five people to receive a pardon from President Barack Obama on Nov. 21.
    Berry had been convicted of conspiracy to manufacture, possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 1988 in U.S. District Court in Minnesota.
    He was sentenced April 29, 1988, to three years in prison.

  • New trials ordered in Knoxville double-homicide case


    Four years ago, the body of 21-year-old Channon Christian was found at a house in Knoxville, Tenn. The body of her boyfriend, Christopher Newsom, 23, was found near some railroad tracks.

    Five people - including three who were arrested in Lebanon - were convicted of various crimes in connection with those deaths, but four of them will receive new trials as a result of official misconduct by the judge who presided over their trials.

  • An early Christmas present


    Santa Claus came a little early for one local couple. He traveled farther than the North Pole for this delivery.

    Anita and Matthew Pinkston recently spent nearly a month in Africa to adopt their new family member, Malachi Moise Pinkston.
    It took over two years to finalize the adoption, but the Pinkstons now have Malachi in their arms.

  • Blaze destroys Willisburg mobile home


    A fire destroyed a mobile home on Tatum Springs Road in Willisburg on Friday afternoon.

    Willisburg Fire Department responded to the blaze. The Washington County Fire Department was en route with a tanker, but was called off.

    "It was fully involved when we got here," Willisburg fire chief Jessie Carney said.

    Carney said no electricity was hooked up to the trailer.
