  • Perry steps down as WC football coach

     

    Washington County High School football head coach Mark Perry is stepping down after seven seasons.
    “I’m officially going to accept another position (Tuesday afternoon),” Perry said.
    Washington County High School principal Paul Terrell confirmed that Perry planned to take a position at Central Hardin High School.
    “We’ve been in discussions the last four weeks,” Terrell said. “He informed me officially (Tuesday morning) at about 8 o’clock.”

  • St. Catharine tips off in national tournament at 5:30 p.m.

     

    The St. Catharine College Patriots will make their first appearance in the Buffalo Funds NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., today. The Patriots tip off at 5:30 p.m. EDT. To hear all the action, tune in to 102.7 FM, or visit Mordecai's restaurant in downtown Springfield to watch the game live. The game will also be shown live on the SCC campus in the Pettus Auditorium.

  • Willisburg winery seeks Sunday sales

     

    After winning a 2007 battle for the right to sell package wines and host wine tastings at their Horseshoe Bend Vineyard and Winery in Willisburg, Bob and Ann Karsner are now seeking another legal change. They want to be able to sell wine on Sundays.
    Currently, Sunday sales are not legal in any part of Washington County. That means alcohol can be sold in some, but not all parts, of the county. The only two areas in which alcohol can be sold are the Springfield city limits, and Willisburg.

  • Forgery leads to murder charage

     

    A Washington County grand jury returned an indictment against a truck driver for his part in a fatal 2010 accident.
    According to court records, Stephen Sizemore, 55, of East Bernstadt, Ky., has been charged with wanton murder, and the charges were filed because he allegedly forged documents relating to his Department of Transportation physical examination.

  • Fire group drops deadline

     

  • Fire meeting is today at 11 a.m.

     

    The meeting of the Washington County fire committee that was scheduled last Thursday will now take place today at 11 a.m. in the old Washington County Courthouse courtroom. The meeting will consist of all members of the Washington County Fiscal Court, as well as those in leadership with the Washington County Fire Protection Association. Mediators from the Kentucky Fire Commission are also scheduled to be in attendance. The meeting is open and all citizens are welcome to attend.

    A group of local women recently took an overnight trip to see Rosemary Clooney’s home in Augusta.
    They thought a ferry ride across the Ohio River would be the trip’s highlight. Shortly after, though, they would trump their river ride with a Hollywood-sized surprise.
