  • Grass tetany is cause for concern


    You may not think you need to worry about grass tetany this time of year, but we do. The way our weather has been so far this winter, we do need to be concerned and here is an article to explain it.

  • 4-H leaf collection winners announced


    Fourth and fifth grade students from across the county recently completed the 4-H Forestry project. 

    In this week’s paper you will find the results as well as pictures of the top winners. A big congratulations to all who completed the project this year.

  • Cantuc Whistlers chapter to have banquet Feb. 4


    The Cantuc Whistlers Chapter of Washington, Marion and Nelson counties with the Quail Unlimited will be holding their 6th Annual Fundraising Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Springfield.

    The doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. There will be games to win guns and also a five-gun raffle. There will be a raffle on a number of hunting items.

    Sixth grade -
    Megan Cloyd

    Megan Cloyd is the sixth grade Student of the Month at North Washing-ton School.  Megan is the daughter of Jeff and Stephanie Cloyd.  Her favorite teachers are Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Whitaker.
    Megan’s favorite activitity outside of school is baseball. In school, Megan likes playing basketball.

     In these tough economic times, college students are fighting for every tuition dollar they can get.

    With Washington threatening to cut federal student aid, representatives from St. Catharine College have been taking the voice of the students to representatives in Congress.

  • SCC Continuing Education enters its second year


    One year after its launch, St. Catharine College’s Continuing and Community Education program is ready to enter its second year.

    With any new venture, there is a learning curve, but it is all part of the process to determine the needs and wants of the community. As registration opens for the Spring 2012 session, the program’s director, Sr. Barbara Rapp, is optimistic about the future.
