A Springfield teenager has been indicted on a charge of reckless homicide stemming from a single-car crash that killed another teen.

Michael A. Barnett, 19, of 301 Hagan Lane was indicted Tuesday by a Taylor County grand jury.

According to a Campbellsville Police report, the crash occurred at about 1:54 a.m. Sept. 16, 2007, on U.S. 68 when Barnett was driving a 2001 Infiniti I30.

Barnett allegedly lost control of the car, dropped off the shoulder of the road and overcorrected, which caused the car to overturn.

A Martin County family will sleep better this winter knowing that there is heat and electricity in their house, thanks in part to members of the Springfield Knights of Columbus.

Jimmie and Rebecca Carrico, David and Patsy Smith and Springfield Grand Knight Billy Abell left Oct. 19 to take part in the Stewards of Appalachia service project benefiting the Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center in Louisa, Ky. Members from KC councils from Taylorsville and Mt. Washington also participated in the project.

He’s a globally known speaker who has given more than 3,000 programs in the U.S. and internationally, and one of his next stops will be Springfield.

Justin Lookadoo is all about helping kids, and he will be bringing his high-energy program for kids and their parents to Washington County Dec. 10-11.

A former juvenile probation officer, Lookadoo is also a best-selling author who has written books on dating for teens. His program addresses what is on the minds of teenagers as they face peer pressure and the challenges of being teenagers in today’s world.

Not only did the students come in record numbers for the fall semester, but they are living on campus more so than they ever have in the 77 year history of St. Catharine College. Many of the students have obviously bought into the new tagline, “It’s not just college. It’s home.”
