Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, was being considered for a Senate leadership position when the Republican Caucus met late Tuesday, but the job of majority whip went instead to Sen. Brandon Smith, R-Hazard.
"I assume I was a close second, since there were two of us," Higdon said just before 8:30 p.m.
"It's not the end of the world," he said. "There will be several committee chairmanships available, and I'll concentrate on getting one of those."
