  • Patriots win sixth straight

     

    Basically, the news was all good from the St. Catharine College men’s basketball program last week. J.T. Burton’s squad saw three new players become eligible at semester’s end; the Patriots were ranked nationally for the first time in NAIA, holding down the 15th spot; and the team ran its win streak to six games with three wins, including two conference road victories.

  • Patriot women split two MSC road games

    The St. Catharine College women split two conference road games last weekend. While that may be acceptable in most situations, head coach Lena Bramblett, couldn’t be satisfied with the outcome.

  • Homecoming rescheduled

    Homecoming festivities at Washington County High School were originally scheduled to take place on Friday during the boy/girl doubleheader between the Commanders and Bethlehem.
    Homecoming has been moved to Jan. 4. The Commanders and Commanderettes host a doubleheader against the Bardstown Tigers on that Tuesday.
    The Bethlehem game had not been rescheduled at press time.

  • Magazine scam targets elderly citizens' bank accounts

    A telephone scam recently found a victim in a local woman as a company charged her hundres of dollars for magazine subscriptions.

  • Mudd named WC volleyball coach


    The Commanderettes will have a familiar face on the sidelines when they take the court next season.

  • Commanders head to LaRue

     

    The Commanders will work off their holiday meals during the National Guard Holiday Classic at LaRue County High School starting on Tuesday.
    Washington County will play three games in three days before starting the new year off with district action.

  • 4-H members attend conference


    Each year, approximately 32 Kentucky high school 4-H members are selected to attend National 4-H Congress.  Until about eight years ago, the conference was held each year in Chicago and now the annual conference is held in Atlanta.  
    To be selected, 4-H members have to be in high school, complete a level of the Kentucky 4-H Honors program and go through an interview process.  

  • Poinsettia demand hits peak this time of year

    Many people who dream of a white Christmas also like to bring a little of the tropics into their homes, by decorating with poinsettias.
    The irony is sun-loving, warm-weather preferring poinsettias can easily be damaged by the temperatures that accompany a white Christmas, said Rebecca Schnelle, state extension specialist for floriculture and greenhouse crops in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.
