  • Higdon to address legislative issues Friday at Mordecai’s


    State Senator Jimmy Higdon is coming to Washington County to give a 2011 legislative session update and meet with constituents.

    “It’s a good opportunity for people to talk to me one-on-one, before or after the meeting, to discuss issues,” Higdon said. “Any time I can do something like that, it helps me to get to better know the people of Washington County. It’s difficult to represent people you don’t know.”

  • Schools remind parents, students to buckle up


    There are new signs at two local schools and educators are hoping they bring positive change.

    Washington County Elementary School and North Washington Elementary School recently received four new signs, two for each school, that remind exiting motorists to buckle up.
    The signs are free from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, but schools must go through a few steps to receive them.

  • SC women fall twice in conference play


    Lena Bramblett’s St. Catharine College women lost two games last week in Mid-South Conference basketball.

    Thursday they fell 70-47 at The University of the Cumberlands and Saturday they suffered an 80-67 loss at Lindsey Wilson.

  • Patriot men split conference games


    The St. Catharine College Patriots split two road games last week in the Mid-South Conference.

    After losing 68-59 on Thursday at University of the Cumberlands, J.T. Burton’s squad   bounced back to win 81-69 Saturday at Lindsey Wilson.
    The 1-1 week left the Patriots in second place in the conference with a 7-2 record, one game behind league leading Georgetown. The Patriots are at Georgetown Thursday in a battle for the top spot.

  • WCHS baseball team to host chili supper

     

    The Washington County High School baseball team will be hosting a chili supper on Feb. 5 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the WCHS cafeteria.
    Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

  • Commanders stumble against Campbellsville

  • No rest for the champs


    The Washington County girls’ basketball team won’t get a chance to rest as they prepare for the All “A” Classic state tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

    The Commanderettes will have to first face Bethlehem, Fort Knox and Bardstown before they depart for Richmond.
    Bethlehem (1-11) comes to town on Thursday for a girl / boy doubleheader that tips off at 6 p.m.
    The last time these teams faced off, the Commanderettes came home with a 47-36 victory.

  • Several named to All “A” all-tournament teams


    Washington County was well represented when the boys’ and girls’ Fifth Region All “A” Classic all-tournament teams were announced on Saturday at Caverna High School.

    Representing the boys’ basketball team, senior Jared Kelty was named to the all-tournament team.
    Kelty averaged 13.5 points in two games, leading his team in scoring for both of those games.
    Junior Trae Abell was named as part of the academic all-tournament team.
    Abell averaged 6.5 points per game in two games.
