  • Guthrie visits Willisburg

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Ky., paid a visit to Washington County on Thursday, stopping by North Washington School before touring Isaiah House, which the congressman said left a strong impression on him.

Guthrie, who took office in 2009, made the rounds in Willisburg, as he spoke to fifth-graders about the importance of government, heard stories of overcoming addiction from those at the Christian-based rehab center and interacted with local government officials.

  • SCC softball swept at Georgetown

As many games this season have gone, the Patriots trip to Georgetown included two games which they had a good chance of winning, only to have that opportunity slip away. Such was the case Wednesday when the Tigers held on for a 10-8 win and game one and then pulled away late in the second game for a 5-1 win in Mid-South Conference action.

  • Bat Pats secure three victories

The Patriots used good pitching, some timely hitting and a dose of “small ball” in beating the visiting Rio Grande RedStorm 3-2 Friday. The Mid-South Conference victory gave Luther Bramblett’s team sole possession of fourth place in the conference with a 6-4 record.

“It was a good game all the way around,” said Bramblett whose team moved to 25-10 overall. “The situational hitting wasn’t so good for either team as we both left 11 runners on base. But our pitchers did a good job in making some big pitches.”
