  • Commanderettes rout Nelson County

    The Washington County Commanderettes got a well-deserved win this week, defeating the visiting Nelson County Lady Cardinals 15-0 in three innings Monday. It was only the Commanderettes’ second win of the season, but it couldn’t have come at a better time with the team coming off a disappointing trip to Tennessee last week.

  • Burton named assistant coach at Morehead

    In the world of college athletics, whether it is for coaches or players, there are many highs and lows throughout the course of a season. J.T. Burton has just experienced a brand new high.

    After serving as head coach at Motlow State Community College in Smyrna, Tennessee, Burton announced Monday evening that he has just been named as an assistant coach at Morehead State University, an NCAA Division I school in Morehead, Kentucky.

    Parenting requires a lot of energy and you may feel overwhelmed and exhausted. It can be hard to imagine finding time to take care of yourself when you are balancing so many other things.     Betty Wheatley and Walter Leon Wheatley Jr. of Springfield announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Katherine Lee Wheatley, to Jason Henry Goodpaster, son of Ruthie and Rick Goodpaster, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

    Wheatley is a 2001 graduate of Washington County High School and University of Kentucky. She is employed at Neogen Corporation in Lexington, Kentucky.

    Goodpaster is a 1999 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He is employed at Big Lots in Lexington.

    Samuel Edward IV and Jessica Combs Lee of Lexington announce the birth of 7-pound, 13-ounce son, Samuel Edward Lee V, born March 3, 2017, at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.

    Maternal grandparents are Ray and Willa Combs of Lexington. 

    Paternal grandparents are Samuel Edward III and Mary Susan Lee of Lebanon.

    Samuel Edward has a sister, Lydia.
