  • Local horses place well at Mercer Co. horse show

    Several horses from Rolling Acres Farm & Stables in Springfield did well at the Spring Jubilee Charity Horse Show held April 16-18 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Harrodsburg. Silver Dollar’s Donato, owned by Robert Stannard, and trained and ridden by Rocky McCoy, won the Walking Horse Championship.

  • WCHS Alumni Baseball Game

    A Washington County High School alumni baseball game will take place at noon May 16 at Tom Bystrek Field in Idle Hour Park. All WCHS alumni are invited.

    The cost to play is $30 per person which includes a t-shirt. There will also be a cookout.

    Come out to catch up with former classmates and have a great time.

    A Wednesday night golf league at Lincoln Homestead Golf Course will start at 4:30 p.m. May 6 with an organizational meeting.

    In order to participate, you need to have a two-person team and show up for the May 6 meeting.

  • Bible-reading marathon now underway

    Springfield's fourth-annual Bible-reading marathon kicked off Sunday evening on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse. The event will go on non-stop until its conclusion on Thursday at noon, with the observance of the World Day of Prayer. Everyone is invited to attend to listen to the reading of God's word, as well as read in time slots that may still be vacant.   • Health scares hit community

    One case of MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) has been confirmed at Washington County High School, according to Superintendent of Schools Robert Stafford.

    “We have one doctor-confirmed case of MRSA, and we have taken all precautions,” Stafford said. He added that a letter was sent home with students Thursday afternoon, as well as a call being made over the school’s automatic telephone notification system.

    Beth and Chris Spalding of Louisville announce the birth of their son on Feb. 27, 2009 at Suburban hospital in Louisville.

    Hayden Christopher weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 20 inches in length.

    Sharon and Jim Thomas of Lebanon announce the birth of their son on April 15, 2009 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
