  • Riney’s dairy facility unveiled to the public


    One man’s dairy barn is another man’s legacy.
    During the grand opening of his new dairy facility, Billy Riney, Jr. couldn’t find the right words. He had spoken once, got choked up, and passed off the microphone.

    After a few others spoke at the unveiling of his massive, technologically-advanced dairy barn, Riney wanted to say a few more words.

  • Open for business in Willisburg


    Willisburg residents can now lay claim to convenience when it comes to some of their shopping needs.

    The new Dollar General held the official grand opening on Saturday, much to the delight of nearby residents.
    According to Willisburg mayor Pat Kirsch, shoppers lined up before 7 a.m. on Saturday to get in at 8 a.m.
    People came from as far as Mackville and Harrodsburg to check out the new place.
    The store, which Kirsch estimates has created as many as 10 jobs, was in early planning stages in January of this year.

    St. Catharine men’s basketball coach J.T. Burton has put together a team that was ranked No. 17 in the NAIA Division I Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll prior to the 2011-12 season. The Patriots are looking to build on a 22-9 season, and a trip to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City, Mo. in 2010-11.

  • Nationwide test for emergency alarm system today

    According to a press release from Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM), the agency will join multiple federal agencies today to conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System(EAS). The test will begin at 2 p.m. EST and will interrupt
    television and radio broadcasts for approximately 30 seconds while
    broadcasting a test message.

    The EAS is a broadcast alert and warning system that can be activated by the
    President, if needed, to provide information during emergencies. Other

    Nicole Byrd and Kevin Mudd of Springfield announce the birth of their daughter on July 27, 2011 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Lakin Isabella Mudd weighed 4 pounds, 7.5 ounces and was 18 inches in length.
    Maternal grandparents are Phyllis Hutchins of Bardstown and Eddie Byrd of Willisburg.
    Paternal grandparents are Susie and Danny Smith of Springfield and John Mudd of Springfield.

  • BIRTH - Boone: It’s a boy!


    Lori and Mark Boone of Raywick announce the birth of their son on Aug. 4, 2011 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Michael Anthony Boone weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches in length.
    He was welcomed home by Daniel Hamilton, age 11 and Sarah Hamilton, age 8.
    Maternal grandparents are Judy and Alvin Morris of Raywick.
    Paternal grandparents are Jean and Jerry Boone of Howardstown.

  • BIRTH - Hiter: It’s a boy!


    Tara and Jason Hiter of Springfield announce the birth of their son at 4:17 p.m. Oct. 18, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

    Camden Joseph weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches in length.
    He was welcomed home by a brother, Devin Hurst, age 11.
    Maternal grandparents are David and Tina Hurst of Springfield.
    Paternal grandparents are Diane Simms of Springfield, Mack and Brenda Hiter of Springfield.
    Maternal great-grandparents are LouElla Warner and Mary Agnes Hurst of Springfield.
