  • Get ready to pitch, hit and run

    Washington County youth are invited to participate in a pitch, hit and run competition sponsored by Aquafina and Major League Baseball. The competition takes place April 18 at Idle Hour Park.

    Registration begins at 8 a.m. with competition taking place afterward. Competitors will be divided into four age divisions: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.

  • Heifers given for Worthington contest

    Over 160 people from across the state gathered April 4 at the Mercer County Extension Office for the 10th Annual Dustin Worthington “I Love Cows” Essay Contest awards ceremony.  At t his year’s ceremony, eighteen beef heifers were given away to students who participated in the contest.  The contest is open to all FFA & 4-H members interested in the cattle industry in the state of Kentucky.

  • County weighs dead animal options

    The Washington County Fiscal Court is one step closer to a solution to the dead animal pickup problem. The county decided not to renew their contract with Nation Brothers due to a doubling of the contract cost. The court has received a proposal from Dead Animal Removal Service, Inc. from Winchester, Ky., to pick up and dispose of dead animals in the county for $27,900. The county is also considering keeping the $20 per-stop fee charged to farmers who use the service.

  • Tigers claw Patriots in doubleheader sweep

    Campbellsville University is ranked ninth in the nation in NAIA baseball – and there is a good reason for that. The Tigers bring a potent offense, solid defense and better-than-average pitching to the field. And that combination spelled trouble for St. Catharine in Thursday’s doubleheader as the visiting Tigers swept the twin bill by scores of 17-5 and 10-1.

  • Lifting Lincoln

    If you were driving through downtown Springfield Thursday morning, you couldn’t help notice all to the commotion by the Washington County Judicial Center. It was a big day as the town was paid a visit by none other than President Abraham Lincoln. Actually, it was an 11-foot, 1,195 pound bronze statue of our 16th president, but it was nonetheless a site to behold.

  • WC softball gets first win vs. Fort Knox

    The Washington County Commanderette softball team hung tough last Wednesday to defeat the Fort Knox Lady Eagles 6-5 for their first victory of the season.

    WC’s Kelly Hill went the distance on the mound for the Commanderettes, giving up just one hit in seven innings while striking out eight and walking four.

  • Commanders take three of four

    This past weekend, the Washington County Commanders swept the competition at the Chandler Classic to win the tourney with a 9-3 first round win over Simon Kenton and then pummeling Burgin 15-7 for the title.

    It was a return to form for the WC squad as they won three of their last four to improve to 6-5 on the season.
