  • SCC’s Jones is national Player of the Week

    SCC Sport Information

    No baseball player in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association had a better week than St. Catharine College first baseman Patrick Jones, and that distinction garnered the junior from Henry Clay High School Player of the Week honors last week in the USCAA.

    “He is off to a good start for us,” said St. Catharine coach Luther Bramblett. “He is seeing a lot of breaking balls, but he is doing a good job of laying off of those and getting ahead in the count.”

  • State road work to start on KY 150 later this summer

    The economy may be in bad shape, but the road ahead may be a little smoother thanks to some road funding courtesy of President Obama’s stimulus package. Federal monies heading toward the commonwealth are paving the way for a new bypass project and the state is also preparing to do some resurfacing along KY-152 from the Marion County line to KY-150 in Springfield.

  • Commanders finish season 4-24

    The Washington County Commanders closed out the 2008-09 basketball season Wednesday with a 34-21 loss to eventual champion Bardstown in the first round of the 19th District Tournament.

    The Commanders started the first quarter with a different pace than fans are used to. They held the ball in an attempt to limit Bardstown’s possessions and slow down the Tiger offense. In fact, almost five minutes went by in the quarter before anyone scored.

  • Students celebrate National FFA Week

    Parking at Washington County High School got a little tougher to find Wednesday morning. It wasn’t oversized Hummers or SUVs that caused the bottleneck turning onto school property though.  It was the parade of 25 farm tractors parading through Springfield to the high school.

  • Bodenhamer resigns

    After three years and a 23-60 overall record, Paul Bodenhamer has stepped down as the boys basketball coach at Washington County High School. His decision came Thursday morning following a first-round 34-21 loss to Bardstown in the 19th District Tournament the night before.

  • County crews left to clean up debris

    After being on the job approximately 48 hours, the sub-contractor hired by Hickey Enterprises to clean up storm debris on state and county roads in Washington County has decided to pull out, and Hickey is being penalized by the state at a rate of $1,000 daily as a result. That leaves the state scrambling to find a replacement as the county begins their own cleanup effort.

    As Kentucky celebrates 100 years of 4-H, it is interesting to many to learn of how the 4-H program has gone global. 4-H and related programs exist in over 80 countries around the world.  These programs operate independently as there is no international 4-H organization.  However, through international exchanges, global education programs and communications, they share a common bond in 4-H.
