Even though you may not have put away your winter coat for good, the recent spell of warm weather has most of us dreaming about spring and summer.  For many 4-H members, myself included, the thought of summer camp is already on our minds.  Plans for Washington County’s 2009 4-H camping session has already begun and this week, our camping group that consists of Meade, LaRue, Taylor, Russell and Washington Counties will meet for the second camp planning session.

It’s not easy being a sports fan and a sports writer at the same time. I’m a die-hard baseball fan, and it’s been a little frustrating the past couple weeks while I cover two baseball teams and two softball teams.

Lee and Jane Goatley recently participated with over 1,500 schools and organizations united in the fight against breast cancer by playing in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone Feb. 13-22.

Lee’s Westminster College team, from Fulton, Mo., wore pink socks & shoelaces for their Breast Cancer Awareness game Feb. 9th vs. MacMurray. (Westminster won 79-64). She helped organize the event and they blew up 60 pink balloons to decorate the gym. All proceeds went to the WBCA Foundation.

A Washington County grand jury returned indictments against three people on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Douglas Francis Brady, 39, of Stanford, was charged with nine counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree (a Class D felony) and one count of being a persistent felony offender.

According to court records, Brady possessed forged checks in Washington and Marion counties, including $330 worth of checks to Sav-A-Lot and Fast Food in Springfield, for which he paid restitution.
