  • Governor visits storm shelter;Updates as of Monday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.

    .    Salt River R.E.C.C. reports 1,000 outages as of Monday, Feb. 2 at 3:45 p.m.  Salt River officials report significant progress with six different crews working throughout the county.

    .    Kentucky Utilities currently has approximately 200 customers in Washington County without power as of Monday, Feb. 2 at 3:30 p.m. Crews are currently working in the Mackville-Texas Road area as well as the Bloomfield

    Road area in Springfield.

  • Deadline to sign up for CDP is Feb. 27

    The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Teresa Lasseter announced that the sign-up period for the 2005-07 Crop Disaster Program (CDP) will end Feb. 27, 2009. Sign-up for Quality losses under CDP began June 23, 2008, and Sign-up for Quantity losses began Oct. 15, 2007.

  • Wintesses to history - Locals attend presidential inauguration

    He has been sworn in now, and Barack Obama is our nation’s 44th president. For the first time ever, an African American is president of the United States of America, and four local residents will never forget the experience of attending his historical inauguration ceremony.

    It was a trip planned by Mike and Lisa Haydon, along with Joe Pat and Nell Haydon, but when scheduling conflicts didn’t allow Mike to attend, that opened up a spot for a friend of the group, Pam Grundy.

  • Springfield Opera House opens as storm shelter

    Mayor John W. Cecconi has announced that effective immediately, the Opera House at 124 West Main Street, Springfield has been opened to the public for anyone needing emergency shelter.   Citizens should bring a pillow, sleeping bag and blow up mattresses (if available).   This facility will remain open to city and county residents for as long as this weather emergency exists.

  • Customers flocking to local gas stations

    While gasoline is in shorty supply in Springfield right now, with BP Par Mart on Main Street being completely out, and Fast Food having only premium grade gasoline as of noon, customers have been flocking to the pumps to make sure they have gas in their vehicles.

    Station managers at both locations said they are expecting gasoline deliveries later this afternoon.

  • BREAKING SPORTS NEWS! - THE WC BOYS BASKETBALL GAME SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT @ GREEN COUNTY IS CANCELLED.

    The Washington County Commanders game schedued for Tuesday Jan. 27 @ Green County has been cancelled due to the winter ice storm. No word yet on when and if a make-up game will be scheduled. Check back for updates as they become available.
