  • Customers flocking to local gas stations

    While gasoline is in shorty supply in Springfield right now, with BP Par Mart on Main Street being completely out, and Fast Food having only premium grade gasoline as of noon, customers have been flocking to the pumps to make sure they have gas in their vehicles.

    Station managers at both locations said they are expecting gasoline deliveries later this afternoon.

  • SCC’s Latham used to scoring double

    Arthur Latham, a forward for St. Catharine College, is used to the word “double” when it comes to his performance on the court. The 6-7 junior from North Hardin High School has four times recorded a double-double this season. He is scoring in double figures at 19.3 points a game. He has scored in double digits in 16 of the Patriots’ 17 games this season.

  • Two killed in Tuesday night crash

    Two men were killed in a two-vehicle accident on KY 555 on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

    Richard Wayne Miles, 48, of Springfield, was traveling north on KY 555 around 10 p.m. According to a report by Kentucky State Police, Miles attempted to pass another vehilce in a no-passing zone when the 1995 Ford truck he was driving collided with a 2007 Chevrolet van driven by Willie J. Adams Jr. of Washington, Pa., as it traveled south on KY 555. After the impact, Adams’ vehicle left the road and came to rest on an embankment, while Miles’ vehicle was facing east on KY 555.

  • White back home after state Junior Miss contest

    Saturday was her 18th birthday, but Lauren White didn’t spend it with her family has she had in the past. This year, she was on a stage in Lexington, competing in the state Junior Miss competition.

    Although she couldn’t spend time laughing and talking with her family, they were in the audience while Lauren was on stage. She said it was a different birthday experience for her, but one she will not forget.

  • Bramblett reaches 100th win

    Six years ago Lena Bramblett won her first game as head coach at St. Catharine College with a win against the JV team from the University of the Cumberlands. Fast forward to January 12, 2009 and you will find the Patriot mentor with her 100th win, a 74-69 victory at Berea.

    That milestone was recognized Thursday night when the SCC athletic department presented Bramblett with a game ball for hitting the century mark.

    I’ve witnessed a many Star Spangled Banner in my time. Whenever I attend a game, I’m still amazed at the number of people who do not know or show proper etiquette during the national anthem.

    I feel it is time to address this problem and nip it in the bud as Barney Fife would say.

  • WC girls take two in a row

    The Washington County Commanderettes got their fifth win of the season and second in a row as they defeated the Fort Knox Lady Eagles 61-46 Monday night in Bardstown. The victory came in the first round of the 5th Region All “A” Classic tournament at Bethlehem High School and sets up a second round matchup against Campbellsville at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

  • Casualties of recession offered free classes at St. Catharine College

    Call it your local stimulus package, courtesy of St. Catharine College. In a way to aid those who unfortunately have lost jobs during the economic down-turn, St. Catharine is now offering free classes during the spring semester. And, even though classes for the semester began Monday, it is not too late to take advantage of this enticing offer. Registration for the spring semester has been extended one week, and some eight week courses do not start until mid-term.
