    Campbellsville University

    Sports Information

The Three Amigos. Three all-beef patties. The Three Musketeers. The Three Little Pigs. The Three Bears. The three former football Commanders.

Such is the life for Shane Bueter, Stewart Jones and Ethan Devine as they try to fit in for The Fighting Tigers at Campbellsville University.

Not much else finds common ground as easily as the two words that all three share — red shirt.

  • Commanders close the book on ‘09

    By Jimmie Earls

You could say that high school football in Washington County is a lot like agriculture in Washington County. For one particular year, there’s a bumper crop, and then some years, there are rough patches. While the varsity Commanders finished 2009 with a 3-8 record, the seeds have already been planted for future harvests as the JV squad went 6-0, taking the Heartland Conference title and the freshman team finishing at a respectable 4-2. As one chapter in WC football closes, head coach Mark Perry sees good things ahead for his team.

  • Patriot women get first victory of season

    SCC Sports Information

The St. Catharine College women have won just one basketball game in four outings this year. While that may be a concern for most teams, Patriot head coach Lena Bramblett only sees good things as a result of the early tough schedule.

“I can say that three of those four losses have made us a better team,” said Bramblett, whose squad split a pair of games in the last week. “We really played well in those losses.”

  • How to safely thaw, roast a turkey

Whether you have 4 days or 12 hours, you can safely thaw your frozen turkey without rising bacteria growth.  Thawing your turkey in the refrigerator is the preferred method for safety reasons, but you can also thaw it in cold water.  The thing to remember about both methods is that they keep your turkey cold while thawing – the key to preventing excessive bacterial growth.

And, no matter which method you select, cook the turkey promptly after thawing.

  • 4-H members to attend conference

4-H members, parents and volunteer leaders recite the 4-H pledge at club meetings.  But like any pledge or song that is memorized, we often forget to think about the actual words and what they mean.

  • Giving thanks to Kentucky's farmers

At this special time of year, my family and I like to pause to give thanks for our many blessings. This season is known for the fall harvest and bountiful meals with friends and family, so it is especially appropriate to give thanks for Kentucky’s farmers. Kentucky’s farmers – and those throughout America – produce the food and fiber we all depend on. Thanks to their skill, ingenuity and hard work, we are blessed with the safest, most abundant and most affordable food supply in the world.

  • St. Catharine College security director works overtime in martial arts

Craig Mattingly began training in martial arts 20 years ago because he was interested in the mechanics of it. A fan of kung fu films as a child, he was intrigued by how a man getting along in years could throw people around as if they were light as a feather.
