  • Pellet gun found at WCHS

    Two Washington County male juveniles have been suspended from school and face felony charges in connection with an incident that happened Sept. 25 at Washington County High School.

    A male student allegedly brought a pellet gun to the high school in a book bag and placed it in his locker, according to WCHS Principal Leon Smith.

  • St. Catharine soccer wins one, drops three

    It was a tough week for St. Catharine College soccer as the men’s and women’s varsity teams combined for a 1-3 record. Two of those losses came Saturday as the Patriots entered Mid-South Conference competition for the first time, dropping decisions to West Virginia Tech. Earlier in the week the women’s team lost at St. Mary of the Woods College (Indiana) but the men won in impressive fashion at Ohio Christian.

  • Stop by 4-H booth at festival

    4-H youth from across the nation will be “Keeping It Green” as they celebrate 2008 National 4-H Week, Oct. 5-11. The theme is to help raise awareness about environmental issues and to encourage youth to initiate environmental projects that make a positive difference in their communities. Many Washington County youth over the next year will engage in learning about the environment and how they can work together as catalysts for positive change.

  • County owed thousands in unpaid EMS fees

    According to Washington County EMS Director Mark Hale, the county is owed thousands of dollars in unpaid EMS service fees. Hale addressed the Washington County Fiscal Court on Sept 26 to see how the county could collect the money owed.

    “We currently have $23,500 that is in the collection process,” said Hale. “That’s just covering from July 2007 to now. These are bills owed as far back as 2005 and 2006.”

  • Commanders no match for hungry Tigers

    A combination of mistakes on special teams and a lack of size on defense resulted in the Washington County Commanders’ fourth straight defeat as they lost 58-45 to the Bardstown Tigers on Friday night in Springfield.

    “If you take four or five plays out of the game, it would have been a different ball game,” said WC head football coach Mark Perry. “We’ve got to eliminate those mistakes.”

    Mills, who owns and operates American Antique Cabin Co. in Springfield, spent last week single-handedly rebuilding an early 1800s-era cabin on the Jacob Hiestand House Museum property in Campbellsville.

  • Central Kentucky Tiger Sharks host regional competition

    The Central Kentucky Tiger Sharks swim team hosted the Frankfort Area Swim Team in a dual meet to start the short course 2008-09 season. The meet was held at the Lebanon Aquatic Center on Sept. 20-21. The FAST team finished on top, 1842-1642.

    “I was pleased with my new swimmers’ performances,” said coach Mike Carey. “And all the swimmers did well for the start of our season.” The Tiger Sharks’ next meet will be the SKY Fall Fest to be held in Bowling Green on Oct. 24-26.

  • Slump continues for SCC Lady Patriots

    The St. Catharine College volleyball team continued its busy schedule last week with four matches in five days. Unfortunately for Juanita Mangan’s team there wasn’t a victory among those matches as the Patriots fell to 1-23 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-South Conference.
