    The decision is in and Glen Goatley has been named as the new athletics director at Washington County High School. Goatley takes over for Chad Willis, who accepted a job as director of pupil personnel with the school system earlier this year. Goatley’s position as AD is effective immediately.

  • Enter exhibits in county fair; more fair results announced

    This week fall officially begins and it marks the final two weeks before our local Crossroads Harvest Festival. There will be plenty activities for the family to choose from during the festival and I hope many Washington Countians will choose to participate in the festivities. Several events are actually a part of the Washington County Fair and efforts by the County Fair Board and local organizations to build excitement and participation to eventually hold a full week’s County Fair in the future.

  • YMCA hosts punt, pass & kick competition

    The Wilderness Trace YMCA held an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Sept. 20 at Washington County High School. The competition provides youngsters a showcase for their punting, passing and kicking skills, with scores based on distance and accuracy.

    John Riney won the 12-13-year-old category with 239 feet 11 inches. Trae Coulter won the 10-11-year-old division with 202 feet and Michael Chastain took the 8-9-year-old class with 186 feet 3 inches.

  • Three trucks and boat involved in crash

    Three vehicles and a boat were involved in an accident near the intersection of US 150 and KY 1030 Bear Wallow Road Friday, and a fourth vehicle came to rest in a ditch in an attempt to avoid the accident.

  • 2006 ambulance wreck case back in court

    It’s been more than two years since a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of KY 555 and US 150 claimed the life of 19-year-old Jeremy Mudd of Washington County, but the case continued to be active in local courts as recently as Monday.

  • St. Catharine soccer 3-0 for the week

    The St. Catharine College soccer teams played three games last week and came out victorious in each contest. The women’s team won home games against Midway and Berea while the men traveled to Hillsboro, Ohio and won against Ohio University – Southern. Both the Patriots and the Lady Patriots now stand at 3-3 for the season.

  • Local attorneys net large verdict in Nelson County

    A Nelson County resident was recently granted $319,048 following a jury verdict in an underinsured motorist claim. The judgment to cover medical expenses and pain and suffering was the largest civil court jury verdict amount awarded in at least the last 10 years in the county.
