  • WCMS defeats Taylor County

    The Washington County Middle School Generals football team won their first game in five years on Aug. 9, defeating Taylor County 26-20 in the OKH Kickoff Bowl.

    “It's been a long drought,” said WCMS head coach Timmy Lawson.

    Tyler Loving rushed for 99 yards, while Alex Marshall ran for 89 yards and Christopher Jewell rushed for 40 yards.

    The big challenge for the Generals will be this weekend when they play at St. Charles.

  • Main Street resurfacing project under way

    Main Street in Springfield was officially closed for parking Monday morning as a resurfacing project began that is expected to be completed within one to two weeks.

    Chad Filiatreau, resident engineer with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, said work began at 7 a.m. Monday on a stretch of road covering 2.1 miles. The project, which will cost $266,300, goes from the intersection of KY 555/150/55 and goes through downtown Springfield, taking a right turn beside the Washington County Board of Education building, and ending at the intersection of the KY 150 bypass.

  • Willis steps down as WCHS AD

    Chad Willis is stepping down from his positions as Washington County High School assistant principal and athletic director. Willis has taken the position of Director of Pupil Personnel with the Washington County School District. He will remain on the job until a replacement has been chosen.

  • Sow grass in September

    September is the best time to sow grass and renovate your lawn. It is the natural time of year when grass seed is released and the weather is perfect for germination.

    Tall fescue should be planted at a rate of six pounds per 1000 square feet. The fine fescues should be planted at two pounds per 1000 square feet. Mixtures of tall fescue and other grass species are not recommended because of the differences in the leaf textures and mowing heights.
