  • Eligible producers should sign up for MILC program

    The 2008 Farm Bill reauthorized the Milk Income Loss Contact Program (MILC). USDA issues MILC payments on an operation-by-operation basis. Beginning with Fiscal Year 2009 marketings, which started Oct. 1, 2008, the Farm Bill made changes to the provisions for payment eligibility to add an adjusted gross income (AGI) limit. If the individual or entity has annual non-farm AGI for the relevant base period greater than $500,000, the individual or entity is not eligible for MILC benefits.

  • Commanderettes win one, lose one in district

    There had to be a big sigh of relief from Washington County head girls basketball coach Bernard Smalley Friday night after the Commanderettes defeated the Bethlehem Banshees 36-30 in Bardstown to improve their district record to 2-1. The win practically assured that they would stay out of fourth place in district standings and not have to face Nelson County in the first round of the tournament.

    The Springfield Police Department has played a key role in the recovery of approximately $20,000 worth of stolen jewelry, although an estimated $40,000 worth of jewelry remains missing.

  • White competing in state Junior Miss contest

    She’s in Lexington now, and in a few short days, Lauren White will be representing Washington County as its 2009 Junior Miss.

    White, daughter of David and Donna White of Willisburg, is a senior at Washington County High School, and is competing for the title of Kentucky’s 2009 Junior Miss.

  • Pats gain momentum for conference run

    The St. Catharine College Patriots will need all of the momentum they can get as they begin the rigorous Mid-South Conference schedule Thursday with a home game against West Virginia Tech. Three of the six conference teams that J.T Burton’s bunch will be playing home and away are ranked in the top 20 nationally and another has received votes in the poll.

    St. Catharine College basketball is back in action this week as both the men and women embark on the second half of the schedule, a schedule that will be mostly games in the Mid-South Conference. But before the conference begins on Jan. 15 with a home doubleheader against West Virginia Tech, both the men and women will have some tune-up games.

  • WC sixth grade basketball team is off to a great start

    The Washington County sixth grade basketball team started league play in Nelson County in impressive fashion with victories over Boston and LaRue County. Washington County Head Coach Tim Graves believes his team’s early success is a combination of hard work and dedication in practice which has carried over to the games. The majority of these players have played on the middle school level this season and Graves believes that has helped as well.
