  • Politicians: Believe 'em or not

They say records are made to be broken, and as a sports fan, I’ve seen over the years just how true that statement can be. Unfortunately, as the current political season is in full swing, there are plenty of politicians out there who also believe promises are made to be broken.

Have you listened to them lately?

  • S. Willey, Financial Advisor

    Financial advisor.

Definition: Institutional investor - Past year stock market investor who’s now locked up in a nuthouse.

    Hey everybody!

You guys watch that stock market lately? The bubble popped and I was sitting right on top of it when it happened.

  • Economy and elections: too much for one college student

A couple of weeks ago, the United States was shell-shocked. Wall Street plummeted, leaving many Americans in a state of awe and panic. Likewise, the election of this year is likely to go down in history as the most controversial ever. Both Senators McCain and Obama are showing their true colors when it comes to the economic crisis. They believe that ripping each other’s throats out is going to steady the free-falling economy. A war between the presidential candidates is not what we need.

  • Lessons for life

St. Dominic Grade School squared off against Washington County Middle School in the third annual Middle School Football Championship game a couple of weeks ago.

On one side you had the St. Dominic Knights. A school, which had won the first and second championship games and had big winning seasons in each of those years.

On the other side you had the Washington County Generals, a team that hadn’t had a win in five years.

    Dear Editor,

  • Breast cancer is a threat to men and women

Hi, my name is Louise Yates and 10 weeks ago I lost my soul mate, my best friend, and most of all, my husband.

Ronnie fought cancer eight years and one month to the day. He died but he always said he wouldn’t give up and to the very end he didn’t. Cancer did not win – Jesus did!

Reader says abortion is biggest issue for election

    Dear Editor,

The economy may be an important issue, but the economy strengthens and weakens with changing times, always has, and always will.

It is my firm belief that the most important issue in the November election is that of pro-life. Nothing else can possibly be as important as “a matter of life or death”.

  • Tax money shouldn't buy filth for library

Do you like to waste your money? Probably not. How about having someone else waste it for you? That would be unthinkable, wouldn’t it?

These days, when finances in our households as well as our government are in shorter supply than we would like, we need to watch how our money is being spent. Yet with money becoming more limited, there appears to be no limit when it comes to what our tax dollars are buying at the Washington County Public Library.
