  • Readers Write: Reader wants action from Senator Higdon

    Dear Editor,

Now that Mr. Jimmy Higdon has won the state senate special election by making vague and misleading statements on the national healthcare debate and negative comments about national politicians, I hope he will now turn his attention to the many local health, education and regressive taxation issues that affect the lives of every Kentuckian.

  • Messages

I never feel so alive or at peace with the world as when something or someone makes me laugh.

Three weeks ago, I wrote a short funny column about my friend, S. Wiley, and I ended it with sending him to Mark Simms for a job interview. Mark replied last week with a very funny column where S. Wiley comes to visit him.  Put the two columns together and you have the whole story.

  • Back to normal, for a little while

Finally. It’s all over. At least for a little while.

Now, when I go home, I won’t find a door hanger on the knob asking me to vote for this person, or telling me how bad that guy is, and how his opponent is a much better person, citizen and candidate for office.

Politics are important in the way our government operates, and I understand that, but I still get sick and tired of them after all of the commercials blasting the candidates.

  • Forgetfulness

There are three surefire signs of getting old.  The first is forgetfulness.  I don’t remember what the other two are.

    Must not have been important.

Anyway, now that I’m in the upper part of middle age, I can tell you that my memory isn’t what it use to be.  If I didn’t, then Cindy would.

  • An S. Wiley job interview

Editor’s note: The following is a guest letter by Mark Simms, president of M&J Construction in Springfield. Simms and his company were referenced in a Nov. 25 article by Sun columnist Ken Begley, and he writes the following in reply.

    Dear Mr. Begley,

  • Readers Write: Readers support candidates in special election

    Dear Editor,

Please accept this letter as my endorsement for Rep. Jimmy Higdon for State Senate.  I want to encourage everyone in Washington (part of the 54th House District which I represent,) Mercer, Taylor, Marion, and Nelson counties to go out on Dec. 8 and cast your vote for Jimmy Higdon.

  • The Internet Matchmaker

This electronic, microchip-driven world we live in never ceases to amaze me. Electronic gadgets and gizmos that weren’t around a few years ago now seem to be indispensable to most people.  You know what I mean.  We have cell phones, Internet, Facebook, e-mail, texting, computers, pagers, fax machines, and on and on.

  • A well-done Tuna

     It’s showing at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 and 21, then again on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.
