  • Born Stanley Young of Nelson County in 1831, Stanley visited the area of Meade County as a child.  His mother’s brother, William Marsh, resided there.  While visiting Marsh, Stanley’s father, St. Clair Young and Marsh got into an argument at the dinner table.  Marsh grabbed a carving knife, and while Stanley looked on, stabbed St. Clair Young to death.  Stanley was nine years old, but vowed to avenge his father’s murder.

    The grandchildren of Harrison and Ada Coyle met Sept. 18, 2012 at Mordecai’s for their annual reunion.

    There were 19 present. Maxine Coyle Elliott, the only surviving child of J.H. and Ada, was the honored guest.

  • On Saturday, Feb. 25,  local schools will gather to take part in the 52nd District Governor’s Cup competition, an academic event sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition.

    Participating schools are Glasscock Elementary, North Washington Elementary, Washington County Elementary and West Marion Elementary.
    The Governor’s Cup features eight events, including the quick- recall event, which is the only one open to the public.
    Quick Recall begins around 11 a.m.


  • Kevin and Lori Riney of Springfield announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Riney, to Brandon Casey Story, son of Rick and Joy Story of Flemingsburg.

    Riney is a 2004 graduate of Washington County High School and 2011 graduate of the University Kentucky College of Pharmacy. She is employed as a pharmacist at Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Springfield.


  • Ray and Willa Combs of Lexington announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jessica Anne Combs, to Samuel Edward Lee IV, son of Eddie and Mary Sue Lee of Lebanon.

    Combs is the granddaughter of the late Madison and Nonnie Ritchie and Raymond Sr. and Geneva Combs. She is a graduate of Tates Creek High School and the University of Kentucky, where she received a bachelor of science degree in accounting and finance and is currently employed with Central Bank & Trust as a fund management officer.


  • Holly Sisk and Jason Cambron were wed at 6:30 p.m. on July 2, 2011 at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown.

    She is the daughter of Jeff and Dawn Sisk of Hopkinsville, Ky.
    He is the son of Ronnie and Vivian Cambron of Springfield.
    The double ring ceremony was performed by Bro. Justin Compton of Springfield Baptist Church. Special readings were read by Lauren Riney, friend of the bride and groom.


  • LaTonja Johnson and Henry Keene were wed at 6 p.m. July 30, 2011 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Springfield.

    She is the daughter of Tommie and Australia Poole of Springfield.
    He is the son of Mary and Henry Keene Sr. of Springfield.
    The double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Yolanda M. Washington of Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church.


  • Erica Graves and Chris Montgomery were wed at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2011 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield.

    She is the daughter of Gary and Becky Graves of Bardstown.
    He is the son of David and Diane Montgomery of Bloomfield.
    The ceremony was performed by Fr. Chris Allegra.


  • Jenna Mattingly and Joe David Smith were wed at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Manton.

    She is the daughter of  Carl and Edna Mattingly of Lebanon.
    He is the son of Charlie and Linda Smith of Springfield.
    The double ring ceremony was performed by Fr. Chris Allegra.
    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Carl Mattingly and her brother, Scott Mattingly.
    The maid of honor was Sara Ruley of Bardstown, sister of the groom.


  • Charles (Chig) and Betty Armstrong Coulter of Springfield celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 24, 2011 with their family.

    They were married Sept. 29, 1951.
    They are the parents of four children, Cathy (Danny) Clarkson, Charles Rex (deceased), Kevin (Margaret) Coulter, and Kim (Joe) Miller, all of Springfield.
    They have six grandchildren, Brian Fallis, Justin (Bethany) Fallis, Emily Coulter (deceased), Abby Coulter, Claire Miller and Cole Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Browning Fallis and Erin Browning Fallis Evan.


  • Marian L. Curtsinger and Daniel F. Curtsinger will be wed at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.

    The ceremony and reception will be held at the Willisburg Baptist Church.
    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.


  • Craig and Sara Ruley of Bardstown announce the birth of their daughter at 11:31 a.m. on July 4, 2011.

    Addalyn Elizabeth weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 18 inches long.
    Maternal grandparents are Charlie and Linda Smith of Springfield.
    Paternal grandparents are Joe and Sheila Ruley of Springfield.


  • Elizabeth McElroy and Andrew Adkins of Finley announce the birth of their daughter on July 24, 2011 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Cheyenne Faith Adkins weighed 4 pounds, 6 ounces and was 17.5 inches in length.
    She was welcomed home by Drew, 11 years and Mya, age 10.
    Maternal grandparents are Kathy McElroy of Finley and Johnny and Teresa McElroy of Glasgow.
    Paternal grandparents are Sharon Belcher of Ashland, and the late George Adkins Sr.


  • The St. Catharine College Washington County Circle of Friends Dinner will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Spalding Student and Community Center on the St. Catharine College Campus. 


  • Rodman Dickerson of Bardstown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Stephanie Dickerson, to Shawn Filiatreau, son of Phyllis and Tom Filiatreau of Fredericktown.

    Dickerson is a 1998 graduate of Bethlehem High School and a graduate of Spencerian College. She is employed at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
    Filiatreau is a 1997 graduate of Bethlehem High School.


  • Chad and Erica Mattingly announce the birth of the son on Aug. 10, 2011 at Tripler Hospital in Hawaii.

    Layne Ikaika Mattingly weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces.
    Grandparents are Gary and Wanda Clark, Patsy Mattingly and George Gribbins, all of Lebanon.
    Great-grandparents are Earl and Jean Fields of Springfield and Helen Clark of Lebanon, and the late Spencer Clark Jr., Evelyn Gribbins of Lebanon, and the late George Gribbins, and the late Emanuel and Anna Mattingly.


  • Crystal Edlin and Brock Langford of Loretto announce the birth of their daughter on July 29, 2011 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
    Aria Danielle Langford weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches in length.

    She was welcomed home by a sister, Leanna Izabelle Langford, 2 years old.
    Maternal grandmother is Sheila Clark of Bardstown.
    Paternal grandparents are Bobby and Trudy Langford of Lebanon.


  • Becky and Gary Graves of Bardstown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jessica Graves, to Brock Miles, son of Brenda and Andy Miles of St. Francis.

    Jessica Graves is employed at Spring View Clinic in Springfield.
    Brock Miles is employed at Heaven Hill in Bardstown.
    The wedding will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Francis. The reception will follow at the Loretto Parish Center in Loretto.
