  • SCC athletes earn All-Conference...

    In their first year in the Mid-South Conference, St. Catharine College found themselves well represented when it came to awards at Thursday’s conference banquet in Frankfort. Erin Rogers and Arthur Latham were the big winners as they were named to the first team All-Mid-South Conference basketball teams. Other players were honored with an honorable mention and all-academic awards.

  • Tournament time for St. Dominic

    The St. Dominic sixth-grade basketball team participated in the Nelson County Middle School Tournament this past weekend. After defeating St. Joseph 30-24 and then Bardstown 38-36, the Knights took on St. Catherine on Sunday, with St. D coming up short against the Colonels, 34-21 to end their tournament run.

  • Bat Pats conference opener is...

    In a busy week of college baseball, it was very easy to pick out the highlight for the St. Catharine College Patriots. That came Wednesday when Luther Bramblett’s team traveled to Southeast Missouri State and left with an 11-9 victory. It was the first time the Bat Pats had ever faced a NCAA Division I opponent and, as sweet as the win was, Bramblett says it comes with possible repercussions.

  • Filiatreau plays her finale for...

    Katie Filiatreau played her final game as a Lady Tiger Saturday in Frankfort. Georgetown College finished the 2008-09 campaign with a 63-44 loss to Campbellsville in the Mid-South Conference semi-finals on Saturday. Filiatreau scored 305 points in 32 games for an average of 9.53 points per game during her final season at Georgetown. Filiatreau played for the Washington County Commanderettes from her sixth grade year in 1998 through her senior season of 2005 and accompanied the team to two state tournaments.

  • Goatleys playing for a cause

    Lee and Jane Goatley recently participated with over 1,500 schools and organizations united in the fight against breast cancer by playing in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone Feb. 13-22.

    Lee’s Westminster College team, from Fulton, Mo., wore pink socks & shoelaces for their Breast Cancer Awareness game Feb. 9th vs. MacMurray. (Westminster won 79-64). She helped organize the event and they blew up 60 pink balloons to decorate the gym. All proceeds went to the WBCA Foundation.

    The spring-like weather late last week afforded the Washington County Commanderettes softball team a chance to get outside and practice on the field. The atmosphere was one of fun, but also hard work, as the squad was put through their paces by head coach Christy Baker.

  • SCC’s Jones is...

    No baseball player in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association had a better week than St. Catharine College first baseman Patrick Jones, and that distinction garnered the junior from Henry Clay High School Player of the Week honors last week in the USCAA.

    “He is off to a good start for us,” said St. Catharine coach Luther Bramblett. “He is seeing a lot of breaking balls, but he is doing a good job of laying off of those and getting ahead in the count.”

  • Commanders finish season 4-24

    The Washington County Commanders closed out the 2008-09 basketball season Wednesday with a 34-21 loss to eventual champion Bardstown in the first round of the 19th District Tournament.

    The Commanders started the first quarter with a different pace than fans are used to. They held the ball in an attempt to limit Bardstown’s possessions and slow down the Tiger offense. In fact, almost five minutes went by in the quarter before anyone scored.

  • Bodenhamer resigns

    After three years and a 23-60 overall record, Paul Bodenhamer has stepped down as the boys basketball coach at Washington County High School. His decision came Thursday morning following a first-round 34-21 loss to Bardstown in the 19th District Tournament the night before.
