  • Loretto slow pitch softball and...

    Sign-ups for the Loretto slow-pitch softball and T-ball leagues will be held every Wednesday in March from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Loretto Ball Park under the pavilion.

    The league starts the third week of May and ends the last week of June. Each league will play six games each, coed teams may play more.

    Leagues will include 4-6 T-ball, 7-9 girls coach-pitch softball, 10-12 girls coach-pitch softball, 7-9 boys’ coach-pitch softball, 10-12 boys’ coach-pitch softball and 13-17 coed softball.

  • SCC sweeps Midway in softball

    In between the rain and unusually cool temperatures, the St. Catharine College softball team was able to squeeze in two games last week when Midway College visited Salt River Electric Field for a doubleheader on Wednesday. And the two contests allowed the Patriots to bring their season record to 5-5 as they swept the Eagles.

  • SCC Volleyball Tryouts

    Adam Stevenson, hired recently to take over the volleyball program at St. Catharine College, announced that open tryouts will be held Sunday March 21st from 4:00-5:30 in Lourdes Hall on the SCC campus.

    Stevenson, who said that a JV volleyball program will be added for next season at St. Catharine, added that new scholarships will be available. Players are encouraged to come early as campus tours will be offered before the tryouts.

    St. Catharine College Volleyball Coach Adam Stevenson has signed Shelby Howard for the class of 2010 from Marion County High School.  Shelby signed an NAIA letter of intent to officially join the SCC volleyball program in a ceremony at the Marion County High School library.

  • Idle Hour Park Youth League Sign...

    It’s time for youth league sign-ups for boys and girls T-ball, boys and girls coach pitch and girls little league softball at Idle Hour Park.

    Dates and times for sign-ups are:

    Friday, March 19 - 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Saturday, March 20 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Friday, March 26 - 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Saturday, March 27 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Kids ages 4-12 are eligible to play and all participants must register even if they played last year. No sign-ups will be accepted over the phone and fees will be collected during sign-ups at the park.

  • Schuler hopes to build on last...

    Last year, the Commanders finished the baseball season at 14-12, their first winning season since 2003. This year, head coach Derek Schuler hopes to build on that success.

    “We finished 14-12 last year, and we have a lot of those players coming back,” Schuler said.

    The Commanders return eight seniors and five juniors this season, and Schuler said those veteran players need to step up and believe they can win.

    The St. Catharine College Patriots won three of four games last week to improve their season record to 10-9. On Tuesday they bettered visiting Missouri Baptist 8-5, but fell to Union College 5-4 at home Wednesday. On Sunday, in the first Mid-South Conference action of the season, they swept a doubleheader at Pikeville College.

    Mercer County High School soccer standout, Savannah Fox, has signed with the St. Catharine College Patriots. Fox, who played center midfield for Mercer County, earned all-district honors in 2006 and 2009, all-region honors in 2009, was named team best offensive player in 2006, and was named most valuable player of the Garrard County tournament in 2007.

    After a respectable 14-18 season last year, the 2010 Commanderette softball squad is ready to hit the diamond. Head coach Christy Baker is tuning her team up by playing a couple of scrimmages this week. As The Sun went to press, the Commanderettes were slated to scrimmage Somerset on Tuesday and John Hardin on Saturday.

  • Cornhole Tournament
