    In one of the most exciting games in the history of Lourdes Hall, the St. Catharine College Patriots downed the Georgetown College Tigers 92-87 in overtime Thursday in Mid-South Conference action. St. Catharine, 14-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference, forced the overtime when Ervin Williams’ putback with six seconds to play knotted the game at 76-76.

    The Washington County Relay for Life will be taking donations to fight cancer this Tuesday night when the Commanders and Commanderettes sponsor Coaches Vs. Cancer games at Washington County High School.

    Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to show your support in the fight against cancer. Relay teams will be taking donations and holding silent auctions during the games.

    The Bethlehem swim team traveled to Lebanon, Ky., on Tuesday, competing against Nelson and Marion counties at the Lebanon Aquatic Center. All three teams practice at this location and consider this a home meet.

    Bethlehem girls’ team scored 37 points, falling just short of Marion County’s 40 points while Nelson County scored 12 points.

    Bethlehem boys’ team scored 15 points to Marion County’s 47 and 10 for Nelson County.

    Bethlehem received first place in 10 out of 14 events.

    It wasn’t exactly the state championship last Friday night in Springfield, but you would have thought Washington County won the title when the final buzzer went off in overtime and the Commanderette faithful erupted in celebration after edging the Bethlehem Banshees 42-40.

    Last Monday, the Commanders were able to beat the Bethlehem Eagles in the opening round of the 5th Region All ‘A’ tournament, handing the Eagles a 43-31 loss. They followed that up with a 55-41 loss to Green County in the semi-final round in Campbellsville. Last Friday night’s re-match against Bethlehem had some wondering if three games in five days was going to take it’s toll on the Commanders.

    The Commanderettes scored their first district win of the season and their third win overall in pulling an upset victory over visiting Bardstown Friday, 54-49.

    WC freshman center Kenya Turner scored 17 and senior point guard Morgan Burton knocked down three three-pointers in a 15-point night for the Commanderettes.
