  • SCC takes lumps on the road

    SCC Sports Information

    The St. Catharine College men and women found out how it looks to play conference basketball on the road. And when they finished their first away date Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands, they didn’t like what they saw.

    Against the sixth ranked men’s team, St. Catharine dropped a 77-46 decision. The Cumberlands women, ranked 12th, defeated the Lady Patriots 79-49. The loss dropped J.T. Burtons team to 0-2 in the conference and 4-14 overall. The St. Catharine women are 1-1 and 11-9.

  • Former Commanderette stars now...

    Some former Washington County High School basketball players are finding success at the collegiate level.

    Brittany Edelen, a 2006 graduate of WCHS and the school’s all-time leading scorer, had a good showing this past week as she notched 13 points while going 5-for-11 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from the three-point line in a close 69-64 loss at No. 7 Tennessee Thursday. She added four rebounds in her 25 minutes of play against the Lady Vols.

    The Collegiate Baseball publication annually picks “players to watch” for the upcoming season. And, in scanning over 200 rosters from NAIA schools, three of those players they deemed with the most potential will be suiting up for the St. Catharine College Patriots this spring.

  • Commanderettes win one, lose one...

    There had to be a big sigh of relief from Washington County head girls basketball coach Bernard Smalley Friday night after the Commanderettes defeated the Bethlehem Banshees 36-30 in Bardstown to improve their district record to 2-1. The win practically assured that they would stay out of fourth place in district standings and not have to face Nelson County in the first round of the tournament.

    The St. Catharine College Patriots will need all of the momentum they can get as they begin the rigorous Mid-South Conference schedule Thursday with a home game against West Virginia Tech. Three of the six conference teams that J.T Burton’s bunch will be playing home and away are ranked in the top 20 nationally and another has received votes in the poll.

    St. Catharine College basketball is back in action this week as both the men and women embark on the second half of the schedule, a schedule that will be mostly games in the Mid-South Conference. But before the conference begins on Jan. 15 with a home doubleheader against West Virginia Tech, both the men and women will have some tune-up games.

  • WC sixth grade basketball team...

    The Washington County sixth grade basketball team started league play in Nelson County in impressive fashion with victories over Boston and LaRue County. Washington County Head Coach Tim Graves believes his team’s early success is a combination of hard work and dedication in practice which has carried over to the games. The majority of these players have played on the middle school level this season and Graves believes that has helped as well.
