  • Commanderettes advance in...

    The Washington County Commanderette volleyball team found new life in the postseason with a 2-1 win over Bethlehem in the first round of the 17th District Tournament on Monday night. With the victory, the girls guaranteed themselves a spot in the 5th Region Tournament at Central Hardin, which begins Oct. 20.

    The Commanderettes got off to a shaky start in game one, but Morgan Thomas went on a 9-0 run in service and WC fought back to win 25-23.

  • Fall cornhole league wraps up

    Idle Hour Park's fall cornhole league wrapped up on Monday night with the league tournament. Phillip Haydon and Keith White won a one game tie-breaker against Michael Smalley and Tony Churchill to take the championship. The team of Smalley and Churchill took second place. Third place was won by the team of Bobby Joe Mattingly and Bernard Smalley.

    The Wilderness Trace Family YMCA will offer an adult basketball league starting Nov. 2. Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at the YMCA in Harrodsburg. Registration deadline is Oct. 17. Call the YMCA toll-free at (877) 734-9622.

    Whew! Just when I thought someone had kidnapped the real Chicago Cubs and replaced them with another team, they finally showed up in the NLDS against the Dodgers. With the sweep over the Cubs by Los Angeles, I can sleep well at night knowing that the continued curse of the Cubs is still intact.

  • Commanders’ air attack...

    If you can’t go through them, then go over their heads. That seems to be the new approach to Washington County’s offense this season. With a young squad loaded with sophomores and freshmen, the Commanders have taken to the air to put some points on the board, and it seems to be a productive method of operation. WC is at the top or near the top of all offensive categories in Kentucky Class 2A football.

  • Commanderettes prepare for...

    With the final games of the regular season approaching, the Washington County Commanderettes volleyball team has shaped themselves into a formidable competitor. Although Nelson County finished with a perfect 6-0 district record, WC was still in position to finish with a winning record in the district and was setting itself up for a strong postseason when it faced the Bethlehem Banshees for the second time within a week.

  • Commanderettes get tough

    The Washington County Commanderettes volleyball team has been a force to be reckoned with lately, with a 2-1 win over Bethlehem on Sept. 23 for its third consecutive win. The match against the Banshees was the first of three straight district matches for the Commanderettes as they looked to gain ground on district leader Nelson County, which they would meet later in the week.

  • St. Catharine soccer wins one,...

    SCC Sports Information

    It was a tough week for St. Catharine College soccer as the men’s and women’s varsity teams combined for a 1-3 record. Two of those losses came Saturday as the Patriots entered Mid-South Conference competition for the first time, dropping decisions to West Virginia Tech. Earlier in the week the women’s team lost at St. Mary of the Woods College (Indiana) but the men won in impressive fashion at Ohio Christian.
